This marks the first year bookstore sales have risen since 2007, when the Great Recession began and when bookstore sales as measured by the Census Bureau reached their all-time high of $17.2 billion. For the full year, because of the strong last third of the year, bookstore sales grew 2.6%, to $11.2 billion. ![]() This was the fourth consecutive month in which sales rose strongly, after jumping nearly 7% in September and October and 7.5% in November. December bookstore sales rose 9.6%, to $1.42 billion, compared to December 2014, according to preliminary estimates from the Census Bureau. ![]()
